Charitable giving is a key objective of our social responsibility efforts. Through the Ventas Foundation, our philanthropic activities at both the local and national level are focused around the locations where Ventas employees and customers live and work.
Representing approximately 55% of our net operating income (NOI), seniors housing is a significant element of our property portfolio. This is reflected in where we focus our marquee partnership philanthropic efforts as we work with organizations that share our objective of improving the health and well-being of the senior population.
Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago IL
In 2015, Ventas entered into a $1 million five-year partnership with The Greater Chicago Food Depository, whose mission is to provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
As a strategic partner to the Older Adult Program to end senior hunger, our commitment supports food delivery to 6,500 seniors each month so they will not go hungry or be forced to choose between medicines and nutrition. In addition to our financial contribution, Ventas employees also volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
“No one should go hungry in our community. But too often, older adults do not have access to the food they need to stay healthy. Ventas’s generous support will bolster our response to hunger among older adults throughout Cook County.” Kate Maehr, Executive Director and CEO of the Food Depository.
